Just a small update on me. Been pretty busy at Varner Studios sculpting lately. Some of you saw me at ComiCon and I'll be at DesignerCon this year too. As you know the new Ninja Turtles movie came out earlier this month and I had the chance to work on some of the movie toys in stores currently: namely Shredder and April. If you haven't seen them check them out here: TMNT

If you pick up a toy from McDonalds now there's also a decent probability I worked on it.

Of course those projects were about a year ago, but I'm still keeping busy and happy with many current things too. Just thought I'd let y'all know!

God bless you :)

Psh... that was life. My friend came over and booted the computer aaaannnd it's fixed. Apparently I had already repaired it correctly but my computer didn't realize it so it didn't change the bootup protocol. Easiest fix ever.. and I was expecting the worst.

---------------------------------------------------------
My computer is broken...

Things might be slow for a while: commissions, responses, uploads. Hopefully my good friend and IT wiz can fix it.

That is all.

Well it was amazing. I learned a lot, was absolutely stunned by the quality(and volume) of his work, and got to see some rather exclusive concept art for several movies and games some of which were never released. He was also quite an interesting guy who always makes a playlist catered to his project and loves listening to theological debates. That was interesting to me for some reason. He also stressed the importance of CREATIVITY in the art world. You must be a great artist technically but also have great ideas to be an asset.

He did a demo too in Corel Painter and the thing I believe was the most important takeaway was on color. Warms and cools. That should be your focus and it's important to have an understanding of it. You can make a color look cool when it's in fact warm by graying it out on a warm surface. A cool color also stands out wayyyy better on a warm background as opposed to a cool one and vise versa.  For example, whenever he paints a shine on something it's from the opposite side of the spectrum as what it's on to make it pop.

Also, I got to talk to him 'n shake his hand and stuff. Someday hopefully we'll meet again professionally.

Yup I had a great time!

So............

I just found out Vance Kovacs is in town!!! And... he's doing a seminar where he talks about his career, art, and will probably be sort of open-forum. He is one of my personal heroes in art and have been wanting to meet him for quite a long time now.

He is an exceptional illustrator and concept artist. You've probably seen his work on book covers or movies he's worked on like Thor, John Carter, MIB3, and The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. He's also done work for Magic Cards as well as tons of other stuff. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss.

What: Seminar with Vance Kovacs
Where: Fullerton College (321 E. Chapman Ave., Fullerton, CA) Building 200 Room 229
When: Wednesday April 10, from 1-4 pm.

((((ITS FREE))))

His art: www.vancekovacs.com/

I will DEFINITELY be there and I hope to see you too! (assuming it's humanly reasonable to attend)

Livestream?!?!

1 min read
I just discovered Livestream!!! Dunno what I'm doing but saw :iconluminosion: try it and got randomly inspired. Seems a lot of people on DA are using it now that I think about it...

Thought it might be a good way to socialize and connect with everyone while making arts. Also a good way to learn from you guys and answer any questions you have about anything.

I don't mind teaching anybody how to use ZBrush either. Been working as a toy sculptor lately and have learned a lot about the program from others in the studio, DVD's, Pixologic forums, and TONS of other online sources. If you have any tips, I'd also like to hear them. There's such an endless amount of options within the program...

Note: I LOVE constructive criticism and all suggestions.

Have a nice day and I'll do my best to let ya'll know when I'm on starting now. Speaking of which.. I'm on. I think.

Bother me at www.livestream.com/Athrial!!!

Current Commission status: CLOSED

If you have any questions or inquiries about future commissions PLEASE leave a comment and I will respond ASAP.  I am very  interested in sculpting your character.
I plan on opening up again as soon as I finish up my current batch and post pricing.

Thanks to all those who submitted for commissions.
It was really encouraging to get submissions from all new people and is really helpful for determining pricing, timing, etc.  I'm working on them all very hard but I'm not used to my turnaround time yet so it's difficult to give estimates.  Hopefully soon I'll get more used to this whole setup, but until then thanks for your patience and for checking out my work.
